I wasn't too sure what to expect at first. I had some doubts that it would just be vaguely hippie nonsense. But I find that just five minutes of yoga's a great way to get my thoughts together and help me to concentrate for long periods. It's a good way to keep me fit and flexible without the pulls and strains of high impact exercise. So I have no hesitation, and no embarrassment in recommending it to anyone. And after an extended session it's like you've taken a mild upper without all the nasty after effects ;)

Yoga.

Like most men brought up on a strict diet of rugby, football, martial arts and other testosterone fuelled contact sports, the idea of yoga never really appealed to me. The misconceived idea of spending an hour of two stretching bits of me that really shouldn’t be stretched and humming to the sound of whale music in the company of ladies in lycra didn’t really push any of my manly buttons and so it was something I was never going to try. However whilst training as an actor, yoga was introduced as a part of my course and I am extremely grateful it was. Yoga was an opportunity to "take a break" from what was becoming an extremely stressful and punishing week, and I don’t mean in the lazy, skive off, do nothing sense. It was an opportunity to relax and focus both body and mind whilst at the same time pushing both stamina and fitness levels. (if you don’t believe me, I challenge anybody not to break a sweat after 10 minutes of yoga).

I would urge everybody to give yoga a chance. As part of a healthy fitness regime it is second to none. I have noticed improvements in my core strength, agility, posture and respiration. But the one thing that yoga provides that cannot be beaten is a sense of total relaxation and calmness, which in a daily lifestyle filled with stress is a must.
